I personally think the stories started because once long ago these creatures have romed the earth like the stories state. But also according to the stories mortal humans most of the time feared them (due to the destruction or their nature) and basically killed them so they can go to bed at night and know they can sleep. I really don't really see how anyone can sleep at night knowing that they were part or whole of the reason why that creature or person is now dead. I also have another theory that is some what explained in the bible. When God sent a great flood over the land for 40 days and nights, Noah could of frogotten to or couldn't fit two of each mystical creature on the Ark leaving them to drown. That theory only explains mystical creatuers that never lived in water such as dragons, faeries, elves, ect... Also the theories make sense because how can not as intellegent as us people today, make up such wild stories like it was nothing?
